2. Type & tune
Write your caption, set size, color, outline and position with sliders, then adjust speed and intensity until it feels wrong in a good way.
3. Export & drop in
Export a composite MP4/WebM over your clip, or a transparent GIF / PNG sequence / alpha WebM to overlay in CapCut, Premiere, TikTok or After Effects.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers support the transparent (alpha) exports?
Alpha WebM with VP9 transparency is supported in desktop Chrome and Edge. Safari and Firefox have limited or no transparent-video support — on those, use the transparent GIF (universally compatible, ~8-12 fps) or the PNG sequence ZIP, which any video editor can import as an image sequence. The composite MP4/WebM export works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 14+ as a plain (non-transparent) video.
Why did my MP4 export save as a .webm file?
We probe MediaRecorder.isTypeSupported and ask for MP4 (H.264) first — only Chrome 126+ muxes MP4. Safari, Firefox and older Chromium builds can only produce WebM (VP9/VP8), so the file downloads with a .webm extension. Both upload fine to TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
Can I use these captions in commercial videos?
Yes. The text effects are drawn locally on your canvas — the resulting overlays are yours to use in monetized TikTok, YouTube and client videos. Free exports carry a small SpookyMedia.app corner watermark; Pro removes it.
Why does the handwritten style look different on my device?
Handwritten mode uses your system italic font stack plus a per-character jitter — we deliberately do not load external fonts so the tool works offline and on file://. On Windows it leans on Segoe Script / Trebuchet italic, on macOS on Helvetica / Times italic; the tilt-and-shake animation is identical everywhere.
Do my photos and videos leave my device?
No. Everything — preview, recording, GIF encoding and ZIP packing — runs in your own browser tab. Your uploaded media never touches a server, which is why the whole page works offline.
