SpookyMedia.app is a free Halloween content creation toolkit. We designed this site around one belief: your creations are yours, and they should never have to travel to a server to exist. This policy explains exactly what data we do — and do not — collect. The short version: we collect almost nothing, and everything we do store stays on your own device.
1. Everything runs locally in your browser
Every tool on SpookyMedia — the video template generator, the sound effects generator, the media cropper, the subtitle effects tool and all 30+ mini tools — executes entirely inside your web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari). When you drop in a photo, a video or an audio file, that file is opened locally with the HTML5 File API and processed on your CPU or GPU. It is never uploaded to, transmitted to, or stored on any of our servers. There is no account to create, no email to verify, and no upload queue anywhere in the workflow.
This is why the whole site works offline: once a page has loaded, you can disconnect from the internet and every tool keeps working normally.
2. No cookies for tracking, no analytics, no signup
We do not run any analytics scripts, session trackers, fingerprinting scripts or advertising pixels of our own. We do not set tracking cookies. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not know who you are, where you live, or which pages you visited beyond what is technically needed to serve the static HTML files themselves.
There is no login. There is no password. There are no forms that ask for your name, email or birthday on any tool page.
3. What we do store: localStorage, and only on your device
SpookyMedia uses your browser's localStorage for exactly two convenience features, and the data stays only on your device:
- Favorites — the tools and articles you star are saved under the key
spooky.favoritesso your Favorites page can show them next time you visit. It stores an id, a name, a URL and a timestamp. - Language preference — your choice of English or 中文 is saved under
spooky.lang.
Clearing your browser site data removes both. We have no server-side copy of anything you favorite.
4. Advertising (Google AdSense)
To keep the tools free, the site displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Ad serving on this site is expected to comply with Google's publisher policies, including the cookie consent requirements for regions covered by GDPR and ePrivacy rules.
Advertising is the only component of SpookyMedia that involves third-party cookies. All creation tools themselves remain 100% local even when ads are displayed.
5. Children's privacy (COPPA)
SpookyMedia does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and the tools are designed to work with zero data collection. We do not target, and we will not knowingly accept personal information from, children under 13 in a way that triggers COPPA obligations beyond standard ad-serving settings. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us (for example by email), please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
6. Third-party links
The site may link out to external websites — for example platform guides or social networks we mention in articles. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies when you leave SpookyMedia. Exported files you make are yours; any platform you upload them to has its own terms.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the site evolves (for example when Pro membership launches and payment handling is added). Any change will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Significant changes will also be announced in the site header or blog.
